Care of the Course

It is important that, in everyone’s interest, and in the true spirit of golf, the correct etiquette is observed around the course. The following advice provides the actions every member and guest should follow to ensure the high presentation levels of the course set by the Course Manager and his team are maintained on a daily basis.

Bunkers

To minimise damage, enter bunkers at the lowest point. Pull the rake towards you as you exit the bunker ensuring any excess sand is pushed back. Do not pile sand at the edge of the bunker and if required rake other affected areas. Do NOT rake the face of the bunker but simply smooth out with the back of the rake.

Repairing Pitch Marks

Before you start a round ensure you have an appropriate pitch mark repairer. When making or observing a pitch mark on a green start the repair at the back of the mark and then push forward with the repairer. Use the repairer around all sides of the pitch mark and slowly ease turf towards the centre of the mark without lifting soil upwards. Finally tap down with a putter.

Repairing Divots

Please take the opportunity to repair any divots you make during your round.  Always start at the back of the divot and then push forward with your clubhead.

On the Greens and Surrounds

Don't drop the flagstick on the putting surface and always lower the flag by club or by hand. Avoid potential damage to surrounds of hole by placing the flagstick in the middle. Do not take trolleys or buggies between the Greens and Bunkers.

Speed of Play

It is your responsibility to arrive on the tee at least 5 minutes prior to your tee time so that you are ready to play when your tee time arrives. With recent changes to the R&A rules changes this year, you have 40 seconds to play your shot and that starts when it is your turn to play and includes time taken to select a club and measure your yardages etc.

You only have 3 minutes to search for your ball so please play a provisional ball if you are in any doubt that your ball may/may not be found.

Rule 1 of the R&A Rules of Golf covers playing at a reasonable pace, considering others, and caring for your golf course-for example, by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, and repairing ball pitch-marks. Our Course and Golf Committee has applied a code of conduct aligned with the R&A rules and you could receive a penalty if you are seen to be ignoring these rules.

If you see your playing partners or any other members ignoring these rules, then please help us to maintain your enjoyment of the game and inform the Pro Shop or one of the Starters/Marshals of any ill behaviour.
