If you have a handicap Index of 18.5 or higher at the start of the year, then you qualify to join the Club's 20 Section. The annual membership fee of just £5 (£6 from 2025) provides members with a perfect opportunity to join the Section and enjoy the benefits that go with it. It should be noted that members can join whenever they want, and applications are welcomed all year round.
To summarise the benefits on offer, 14 matches are arranged against seven other golf clubs throughout the golfing season with every venue providing a bit of fun; nothing too serious and always a splendid social occasion afterwards.
Joining the 20 Section allows you to play at The Caversham (The home of Reading Golf Club), Sonning, Henley, Goring & Streatley, Newbury & Crookham, East Berks & finally Maidenhead golf clubs.
Furthermore, full members can enter for the two annual 20 Section Major's namely the Nora Williams Rose Bowl and the 20 Section Championship with 5-day members also being encouraged to play on payment of a reduced green fee.
The highlight of the year is the 20 Section Captain's Competition, the evening of which brings forth much merriment with Dinner and Cabaret entertainment for all members and their guests.
During the autumn/winter months, the Jack Kingston Pairs, the Random Pairs and the Bert Williams Tankard knockout competitions take place as does the Chronicle Cup Singles Matchplay knockout.
If this has given you the appetite to join, and what do you do next?
Simply contact the 20 Section Captain Dave Henderson or the Honorary Secretary Malcolm Giles expressing your interest. He will then provide you with information as to how to pay the £5 annual membership fee and, in doing so, become a full member of a group that will enjoy 12 months of golfing fun, have the chance to meet lots of new people, and with it, a lot of laughs.
